Join ASSIST Avon Lake for a social gathering Wednesday, September 28 at 7 PM - 9 PM. You will meet community members who are making a difference in the efforts against drug and alcohol abuse/addiction, as well as supporting other families. In light of the BBC Documentary recently filmed in Lorain County, ASSIST Avon Lake will be sharing resources for support in addition to discussing your concerns from the documentary. We are also seeking people who are interested in volunteering. It takes a community to make a difference!
Assist Avon Lake will also be hosting a community forum on Tuesday, October 11th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm to discuss the educational topic of the "Perscription-Opioid & Heroin Epidemic Awareness." This event is a FREE event that anyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend. Guest speakers will include Jim Coyne, Founder of Assist Avon Lake; Greg Zilka, Mayor of Avon Lake; Tom Stuber, CEO of The LCADA Way; Elaine Georgas, Executive Director of Lorain County Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services Board; Gregg Mehling, Lorain County Drug Task Force; and a representative from the Cleveland Clinic. There will be a host of informational resources tables that you will be able to visit before and after the event. We would love to SEE you and HEAR from you! Your concerns and ideas are crucial to keeping the lines of communication open as our community effort moves forward.

Cleveland.com has been running a contest for the Best Marching Band of Northeast Ohio and the ALHS Marching Shoremen have made it to the finals! We need your help and support! Please click on the link below to vote for the Marching Shoremen!
If you have not seen the Marching Shoremen, come to this Friday night’s football game where our Shoremen will BEAT the Rangers of North Ridgeville! The show for the Marching Shoremen this year is a spectacular patriotic show called American Sketches. This show uses American patriotic songs and folk music from our country’s great history, including “When Johnny Comes Marching Home”, “America”, “American the Beautiful”, “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, and the great big band jazz hit by Benny Goodman titled “Sing, Sing, Sing”. This Friday’s show is a special one as we will be highlighting our show with a special recognition of our own community members who currently serve and have served in our nation’s military. This is a special show and we are proud to recognize those that have sacrificed for our nation. Thank you for your vote and we hope to see you at this Friday night’s game! Each year ALHS PTA coordinates a silent auction donation for Camp !magine's reverse raffle benefit. Camp !magine is an extended school year program that serves students with special needs from preschool to high school, including several here at Avon Lake High School. Please help us make their event a success with a donation to our lottery tree.
Email Cheryl Higley at [email protected] for information or to arrange a pickup of your donation. ALHS PTA Meeting Notes
